How to Get Beautiful Web Design That Boosts Business

How to Get Beautiful Web Design That Boosts Business

One of the most common misconceptions about hiring an agency to build your web presence is that it’s all about “making things look pretty.” Now, don’t get us wrong. We love creating beautiful web designs for our clients. But there’s more to good design than what you see on the surface.

Why You Can’t Ignore Design

When the Internet was first taking off, any business with a website had an edge.

That’s just not true anymore. Now, everybody has an online presence. Customers are used to doing business online. They know how a professional, trustworthy site should look and how it should work.

Another significant change is that more and more businesses (including many of our clients) do business online exclusively. For these businesses, a website isn’t an afterthought or supplement to their physical storefront. It is their business.

These changes mean that beautiful web design is more important than ever.

Web-savvy customers know that professional design communicates competence. If, for example, your site looks dated, customers will assume that your business is dated, too.

And if your website is your storefront… well, that’s a pretty big deal. It’s the main way you represent yourself to customers. The stakes are high.

Design Is About Function, Too

We also want to bring up the close relationship between how your website looks and how it works.

You could use the perfect fonts and colors, but if your visitors don’t instinctively know how to navigate your website, or if they get frustrated by having to click around too much, the beauty of your website is only skin-deep. Unfortunately, your customers aren’t going to waste their time trying to figure it out.

And you’ve probably heard about the importance of responsive design. If your website is responsive, it looks great and works seamlessly whether visitors are viewing it on a desktop or mobile device. If your site isn’t responsive, you’re frustrating your potential customers and Google will hit you with SEO penalties.

What Beautiful Web Design Really Means

A lot goes into beautiful design. Here are a few things to consider as you determine how you want your website to look and how you want it work.

  • The design of your website should reflect your business. It should fit your personality and speak to your target customers. At DesignGood, we get to know our clients inside out during our Brand Discovery Method. Everything we find out dictates our design choices.
  • The next step is to get organized. Have you ever tried to use a website that feels like being trapped in a maze? Chances are, it was created without a thoughtful site plan. A site plan (or site map) is an outline of the pages that will appear on your site and what information will be on each page. We are big believers in thorough site mapping. This is how we plan what content to include as well.
  • Your website should convey information visually. You don’t have much time to make an impression on your site visitors. They need to be able to tell instantly what you do and what makes you different. Instead of using paragraphs of text to explain this, look for ways you can use infographics to communicate more quickly. This is one of the big reasons to consider working with professionals to design your website.
  • As we said earlier, your website simply has to be responsive now. If you’re hiring someone to do your website, this is one of the main things you should ask about. Basically, no one should be designing a site for you that isn’t responsive.
  • Before your site launches, make sure that all the details about its organization and design are correct. At DesignGood, we build time into our process for testing before the sites we design go live. That’s because we don’t want a goof like a broken link to take away from the polish and credibility we’ve worked so hard to create with you.

The design of your website isn’t window dressing. Take it seriously. At DesignGood, we take a lot of pride in designs that both look amazing and help our clients reach their goals. This is one of founder Kristin Moses’ favorite topics! Contact us today to learn more.

Much love and gratitude,
