Do Your Business and Brand Reflect Who You Are?
At DesignGood, we’ve helped hundreds of clients create successful businesses and brands. Our clients come from all different fields, from therapy and coaching to design to beauty and fitness. But we’ve found that one thing is true for all of them: Success and fulfillment happen when their business, brand and being (self) are all in alignment.
These three things don’t exist in isolation. They’re all interconnected, and they all support each other. The area that seems to get overlooked the most is being or self. Because our culture places so much emphasis on “the hustle,” it’s easy to mistakenly believe that success means putting yourself last.
In reality, though, your business and brand must flow from your authentic self. So what does that look like?
- Your personality should shine through in your business and brand. Sometimes entrepreneurs can feel nervous about fully showing their personality because they fear they will “scare people off.” But the truth is that anyone who is put off by you authentically sharing your personality is not someone you could work successfully with in the first place. On the other hand, prospective clients or customers who really respond to your personality are more likely to be pleased by your work — and you’re more likely to be happy working with them.
- Your business and brand should be built on your passions. When you do work that you love and care about, your whole energy changes. You and your business become magnetic. On the other hand, when you take whatever project that happens to come along, you downgrade your energy. Being “just OK” will not turn your clients or customers into dedicated fans who rave to others about your work.
- Your business and brand should tell the world what you want. What are you communicating to the world about your work? A couple of examples: If you want to sell a high-end product or service, does your website look high-end? If you know you work best with clients who are serious, driven and open-minded, do you say that in your branding materials? (DesignGood does!)
- Your business and brand must make the life you want possible. People who succeed in business also know what it means for them to succeed in life. They’re crystal clear on what they need from their business in terms of income, time and space. It might feel productive to put the other things that are important to you on the back burner in order to pour everything into your business. But this approach just isn’t sustainable.
